VeggieTales The Mystery of Veggie Island

VeggieTales: The Mystery of Veggie Island is a game for children based on VeggieTales, a US series of children's computer animated television shows, videos, and feature films. In this game three veggie kids are going on a camping trip on a Veggie Island with Larry the Cucumber and Bob the Tomato as their guides. Junior Asparagus and his friends have to earn three Cub Sprout merit badges by participating in activities presented as mini-games. Examples are launching acorns at squirrels with slingshots, moving over lily pads to retrieve a hat while avoiding frogs, fishing for special items while avoiding ducks, getting rabbits to move inside a hole, rolling baby moles to get them back to their mother while avoiding passing turtles and so on. Eventually the kids must solve the riddle of Mr. Nezzer's ancestor to find a way off the island. The characters are moved between fixed-screen environments. After earning a merit badge (e.g. aiming, climbing etc.), the kids need to return to the camping site and talk to Bob to receive their merit badge. Some parts of the island are unlocked until the proper badge is earned, so that way there is somewhat of an adventure element with small puzzles. For instance Socrates the parrot can only be found by climbing a tree through the many branches presented as platforms or a cave entrance can only be located after earning the climbing badge. Certain items can be picked up and they are stored in a backpack. The characters can be moved around freely with some exploration and players are not forced to follow a linear path through scenes. A treasure map shows all available locations. Certain items in the environment can be clicked just to see a funny animation. There is a section with sing-along songs called Silly Campfire Songs with Larry. The game has parental controls through a password protected virtual egg timer that can be used to limit the playtime.
