EarthBound: Giygas Strikes Back! is a definitive enhancement and restoration hack of EarthBound that brings the game into closer alignment with EarthBound Beginnings and Mother 3 while correcting numerous localization errors, inconsistencies, and bugs from the original release. The hack restores intended details and continuity across the Mother series by renaming Pokey to Porky, standardizing offensive PSI attacks as PK abilities, changing Trout Yogurt to Strawberry Tofu, restoring missing NPCs in Threed, correcting the swapped melodies of Milky Well and Rainy Circle, and updating Starman Junior’s appearance to match his EarthBound Beginnings counterpart. In addition to these lore and presentation improvements, the hack incorporates quality-of-life features inspired by later remakes, including a dedicated run button and bulk item purchasing, fixes various graphical and environmental oversights such as the missing bush in Deep Darkness, corrects virtually all known typos and translation mistakes, improves item drops by allowing the Kraken to drop the Gutsy Bat, and updates key story elements—including the iconic gas station screen—to better emphasize EarthBound’s role as the direct sequel to EarthBound Beginnings. The result is a polished, series-consistent version of EarthBound that preserves the original adventure while refining it for modern players and longtime Mother fans alike.
