Knightmare Gold

It's hard to imagine any MSX fan who's never heard a name: Knightmare. Perhaps it is even more difficult that this name does not bring pleasant memories of all those who know what he refers to. And what does he refer to? Knightmare is perhaps the best game ever produced in 32 Kbytes for the first model of MSX line computers. Never before Knightmare a game of such restricted use of memory had exploited both the resources of the MSX line, with several phases quite long and varied, with scenarios that actually translate to setting of the story, dozens of different enemies (and dozens of them at the same time on the screen!), with several distinct weapons, several power-ups, varied and very well detailed end-of-phase enemies... and not least, a great song that really puts the player "in the mood." With such success, nothing more natural than the company that published it - Konami - launched Some very successful continuations. Meanwhile, all the continuations of Knightmare went to the first model of MSX and, although they used more memory (128 and 256 KBytes respectively) did not make use of any additional hardware like sound cards extra or features of the MSX2 machines already existing at the time. However, it was difficult to resist the temptation to launch a improved version... at least from the first game. And that's what Konami herself did, in one of the versions of the Konami Game Collection, by releasing a version of the game that makes use of your wavetable sound cartridge, the SCC... where the songs actually won another life. However, only recently - 17 years after its release - the game won its biggest "power-up": a CD-ROM version, with versions of the original songs sequenced exclusively. This version caused a lot of interest in the MSXzeira community of Brazil, when then A new idea began to be discussed here and there: why not turn the original game into a game for MSX2, taking advantage of the existing features in this machine to further improve what was already great? As a result of this idea and joint effort of several members of the community of MSX of Brazil, came the Knightmare Gold, a new version of the game, launched at the MSX Jaú fair 2005 (end of the Brazilian spring) in Celebration of the 20 years of Knightmare. The Knightmare Gold will combine the features of the Knightmare CD, Knightmare SCC and a reprogramming of much of the game to take advantage of diverse resources available in MSX2 and higher, plus new features even for the MSX1 version.
